Says Expert
That brown leghorn hens were
equally as good layers as those of the
white strain, if properly bred, .was a"
point instanced by Mr. B. Young (in
spector at Crystal Brook of Stock and
Brands Department) in the first edu
cational lecture arranged by the com
mittee of Pirie Poultry, Bird, and
Kennel Club.
The lecturer, who has had1 30 years'
experience in breeding of brown leg
horn poultry, mentioned that one com
mercial poultry farm in this State was
stocked entirely with that breed.
Dealing with intricacies of breeding
for show purposes, Mr. Young out
lined correct shaping of the birds, and
coloring and marking re-quired on
body and saddle hackles. Double
mating for male and female breeding
for, show purposes was -essential for
success,'he said.
' At the conclusion of tiie lecture'Mr.
Young answered many. questions on
poultry breeding generally. Another
educational leoture has been arranged
