'? Wirrialp_a-CroBSCut at 120-feet level passed throujli
hard tilicious limestone, and now entering more con
genial lode stone, of softer nature and more thickly
impregnated with spots of lead, with every appear
ance of farther improvement. A level, driving eoath
on course of iode, commenced at this depth to inter
sect bar jta lode, al which point it is expected a lar-a
depoEit of lead will be found. At 60-feet level man
are etoping in back, breaking galena for smelter.
Lode at this -point wii! produce 6 to 7 tons of letd ora
per cubic fathom. The engine, boiler, smelter, &c,
are fixed, but we are waiting for farther fittings from
the engineers before a start can be made. We
tope to have everything completed and ths fornice
tunning in the course of the next 10 days.
1 have the satisfaction of reporting that a good
supply of water has been obtained at a depth of 103
feet in tbe well sinking near ths creek. This is very
important, as it determines the water level of the
country, and the depth to which the mine mast be
Euuk (from 250 to SCO f ett) to meet with water, when
an important change in the character and increased,
richness of the ore may be confidently expected.
BHcrcan— Engine shaft U sunk to depth of 11 fathoms
2 feet, and in course of another vreek it will be down
&n additional fathom, when shaft uien will commence
to cut plat for 60-fathom level ; also case, divide, and
put in skip road from the 70 to B0-fathom level. AS
the lowest computation this additional 10 fathoms
6hou!d yield £50,000 worth of ore. At 70-fathom level
there is a winze sinking below this level, which will
open up stopeB of good orey ground as soon aa
lede is intersected by level from shaft at 80
fathom level. Thia ?winze sunk about 4 fathoms
throngh a lotie averaging £60 per fathom. Five
fathoms north men stripping down eastern sid9 of
level towards footwall, and also stoping back ot
level Lode for 10 feet laid open in width, will average
£45 per cubic fathom. It is expected that men driving
south at this fevel will communicate with winze sunk
from 60 fathom leveL Lodein present endia worth £45
per fathom. At CO fathom level south, men are driving
by side of a horse of strata. Portion Oe-ng driven oa
is towards hanging wall, and for 14 feet wide U worth
£t0 per fathom. This drivage will open up a large
piece of ground for stoping. Men also stripping
down the level south of this drivage towards jrinia to
open up other stopes, lode being worth lor 12 feet
wide £50 per fathom. Men stoping south of shaft whera
lode is worth £45 per cubic fathom. At 60-fathotn
level engaged stoping south ot shaft, lode worth £33
per fathom. Two men driving acrotscut eiat, uear
the end of eouth level, with view of cutting into tha
hanging-wall ot lede ?At 35-faxhom levtl several pirea
cf men engaged breaking- carbonate ores ontiioate.
At 26 fathom level two men driving a cro3sout south
cf shalt across lode towards hmging-wail where there
are numerous small veins of carbonate and grey copper
ores. At 16-fathom level two men commenced driving
north on lod e to open up carbonate ores in new ground.
Engineers making new and larger crusher state it will
be ready In a few days. When fixed wa
shall be able to resume dressing operations, ani
largely increase our output, witch, for several weeSa,
in consequence of the breakdown of the crasher, hia
been very limited. It is with the highest satisfaction
we report that the Government have commenced
making the new road from .here to the railway. -flad
when the branch line across the plain to the foot of
the mountain rscge ia constructed the distanoe ta
cart will be reduced to 13 miles, a saving of IS miles, '
or 30 miles on a return journey. The new road haa
cot been commenced a dav toosocn, 43 the present
road is in a highly dangerous state from want ol
repair.
