I FINGAL.
A disastrous fire occurred at Mr. C,
. Grinders' farm early on Friday morning,
12th inst., when a stack containing over a
thousand bushels of wheat and oats was
totally destroyed. Circumstances point to
inceiicliari.sm,°aiid the police are instigating
inquiries into the matter. No insurance.
It is understood, was effected on the grain,
and Mr. Grinder's loss will, therefore, be a
very heavy one for a poor man to bear.
Mr. R. G. Talbot, who has been over in
Victoria for a change, has returned to
Malahide, and Mr. Talbot's friends will be
pleased to hear that his health is improved.
Colonel Wallack was here last week,
putting the members of the local detach-
ment of the Cornwall corps through their
facings. The Colonel, in a brief speech,
complimented the men upon their smart
appearance, and hoped that they would
always continue to take a lively interest in
the defence movement of the colony,

The evening train on Friday arrived
somewhat late owing to the express meeting
with a mishap near Evandale, and
thus causing the Conara to Fingal train to
be delayed. The detained train on
arrival here was again promptly despatched
by Mr. Darby, and Miss Flllgrini
did not keep people, waiting for the delayed
mails to be delivered, which was
quickly done.
The hack and pony races to come off on
the Malahide course on the '11th Inst.
(Queen's Birthday) promise to be very
successful, and if fine weather prevails a
good afternoon's sport may be fully expected.
The track is in capital order, and
owners will be able to give their cattle a
gallop without fear of any mishap arising
through faulty ground, etc.
At the annual meeting of the Fingal
Football Club the following were appointed
office-bearers for the coming season :
President, Hon. R. S. Scott, M.L.C.; vice
presidents, Messrs. T. J A. Fitzgerald,
R. Viney, H. G. Stieglitz, Thos. Reynolds,
K. G. Talbot, Dr. Hoskins ; committee,
Messrs. L. Curtis, F. Bean, M. Curtis,
Win. McKercher, Geo. Long, A. Williams ;
secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. M. Lattin
(unanimously re-elected). It was resolved
that all matches be arranged for 10 players
on each side.
