TUNNACK.
A social and dance was held here on
Wednesday evening, 10th inst., in aid of
the local Convent School. It was under
the management of a committee of ladies,
who worked like Trojans for some time
previous to bring the event up to its
wonted standard. To them, indeed, the
creditable result is undoubtedly due. The
audience, which was large, comprised, not
alone local people, but representatives
from surrounding centres. The Colebrook
contingent is especially deserving of men-
tion for their capable assistance during the
concert, their rendering of several appreci-
able items was quite in keeping with the
favourable impression they made upon a
Tunnack audience some time previously.
Misses Elsie Fox, Clark, and Mr. T. Clark,
were exceptionally entertaining. The
former's sterling qualities as a pianiste are
well known through the Midlands, and
her playing, as usual, elicited well-merited
praise. Jovial Tommy was in rattling
form, his histrionic talents being greatly
commented upon. As a comic he is really
a host in himself. Our local State school
teacher, who has made himself very
popular, also contributed a few interesting
items. Dancing was freely indulged in till
the small hours of the morning, when the
company dispersed, after spendiug a very
pleasant night. Mr. B.Nettlefold, as M.C.,
gave every satisfaction as he invariably
docs.
Needless to say, the death of the Hon.
A. T. Pillinger, our representative in the
Assembly, caused widespread regret here.
He it was who kept many a struggling
family together here, and it is well-known
that no deserving case ever appealed to
him in vain. It will, indeed, be hard to
fill the vacant chair ; still, let us hope that
his successor, whoever he might be, will
endeavour to make as good an impression
upon his constituents as did the hero of
these remarks.
