SOCCER
Last Saturday's matches were
featured by the line defensive work of
the half-backs, but they still require
reminding that their work is to dis
tribute the ball judiciously to forwards.
MacCormaclc and Grace (Casino) and
Melen (Federal) are outstanding halves
in this phase of the game.
Casino have splendid players in
Mae.Cormack, McDonald, Grace and
Tait, but require two speedier full
backs with greater power in their
clearances. The full-back should tackle
smartly and kick powerfully instead
of attempting, when pressed, to dribble
the ball past the opposing forwards.
McFarlane (Lismore), Hunt (Banga
low) and Temperley (City) are clever
exponents of full-back piay.
THE HAT TRICK
In obtaining the hat trick for City,
Ma-clntosli showed line opportunism.
It was due to harassing the opposing
full-backs that this centre-forward
achieved success. The forwards should
keep well up on the opposing, full-backs
and the two inside forwards only
should assist the defence when pressed.
The definite object of the inside for
wards is to carry the ball back to the
other forwards.
G. Wightman, of Lismore, is a
splendid inside man and lack of
shooting power is liis only weakness.
^ Lawrence (Lismore) and Carter
(Bangalow) are fast wingers, while
Lindsay (Lismore) with a little more
hustling should prove a decided
acquisition to the local eleven.
