IDLE AND DISORDERLY.-Patrick UUrien.
was charged by Constablo J. Marshall with
being an idla and disorderly parson and a
suspectod person, boing found m possession,,
on Ootobor 11, of six fowls, of whioh he
oould not givo a aatiafaotory account. On
the application of Superintendent Podder
accused was remanded until to-day.

Millard (40) pleaded not guilty to having
disturbed tho publio poaco in Argylc-street
on tho morning of the 12th ins t., but.
Constablo G. Ward proved the charge This
boing her 107th oonviotion, tho Beuch
imposed a fine of £5, with tho option of
three months' imprisonment.
LABOKNY AS BAILEE,-Aloxandcr Ecoles
waa charged with tho larceny on the 6th>
inst., as bailee, of lös., tho proporty of
Carolino Riley, lio oloatod to bo dealt with
summarily, and plcadid not guilty.
Carolino Riloy deposed that on tho 5th inst.
defendant lett Bellerive with a load of
wood, her property, which ho was to Bell in.
Hobart. WitncSB was in Hobart on that
day, and at ISmin. past 12 saw her carb
and horse, with whioh defendant had taken
the wood into town, on the wharf, but she
had not soon Ecoles ainoe leaving Bellerive
on the 5th. Valued the wood at 15s. John
Kiley deposed to finding defendant in the
Rob Roy Hotel on the Sth inst. When
asked for the money for the wood defendant
said he had sold the wood to Kobxrts, tho
hairdresser, but did not get paid for it.
L. Roberts, hairdresser, deposed to paying
Eccles 15s. for a load of wood on the 5th'
inst. The Bench found tho oharga proven.
Prosecutor asked tho Benoh to deul leniently
with tho acouBed, ho having promised to.
work tho amount off. lu consideration of
this the Benoh did not Impose a sontence,
but ordered accused to onter into his own
reoognisaoce of £10 to be of good behaviour
for six months. In default of paying 10s.
forjbond, bo to be imprisoned for seven days.
THK RoiiiitiiY AT BURNIE.-Wm. Lingard,
Francis Priost, and Edward Phillips, were
oharged with having, on or about August
29, entered the store of H. J. Payne, ad
Burnie, and stolen therefrom six pairs of
boots, two overcoats, and other artioles,
valued at £20 14«. Gd., the proporty of H.
J. Payne. Superintendent Pedder conduoted.
the prosocution. Ebenezer Thomas, pawn-
broker. Hobart, deposed that accused Priest
pawned an overcoat (produced) with him for
4s. on September 9. It was wrapped In a.
red handkerchief. Witness handed them,
over to Deteotlve Franklin on September 14.
Arthur Ernest Turner, labourer, Hobart,
deposed that on September 9 be was lodging.

had either an overooat or mackintosh in bia.

the mackintosh produoed. About the 10th
nit. it was arranged between witness and
Lingard to dispose of a pair of boots thO'
latter was wearing. Witness took them to
Roberta', the pawnbroker, but he refused to
take them. Witness then went to Bennett's
and sold the boots for 4a. He gava tbe>
money to Lingard. Subsequently, on ¿bo
13th ult. witness was informed by Lingard.

Lingard and Phillips did not after
that return to Parker's. The boot«,
produced were similar to the ones given to,
witness by Lingard, whioh were sold to
Bennett, and the mackintosh produoed,
whioh Lingard olaims, was similar to tba
one. Lingard wore on tho Weat Coast. * S.
W, Roberts, pawnbroker, stated that
Lingard pledged a pair of boots with him for
4a. The ones produced wore the same.
Priest was like a mun giving the name of
Jones, who pawned an overcoat and pair ot
trousers in September loot. Tho latter waa
wrapped in a bluo handkerchief. Mary
Dunn stated that ahe saw Priest on Sep-
tember 9,and he waa then «naring a mackin-
tosh similar to tho one produced. Subse-
quently witness saw him wearing a new j
shirt and new boots, Thomas Bennett,
general dealer, Hobart, deposed to Arthur- j
Turner pledging a pair of boots with him on
the 10th inst, for 4s, The ones produced were
the same. Turner said the boots belonged,
to his mate, and were too small for him.
Phillips resembled one of the men whom
Turner afterwards joined. The boots wer«,
