MYRNIONG.
(F'ROiI OvU OWN COR?ESPONDENT.)
IN the absence of the Rev. Mr. Smith, Mr.
Cassidy read the necessary service in the
Church of England on Sunday Jast. In con
nection with church mlatters I may say that
there is now on the tapis a project for build
ing a Church of England at Greendale, and
considering the proximity of Greendale to
Myrniong, and the fewness and scattered
nature of the population at the former place,
I think the time has scarcely arrived to
warrant such a proceeding. 13csides, a great
deal of church support comes to Myrniong
from Greendalo, which, if withhold, as it
most assuredly would be if a church were
erected, would be the means of diminishing
the congregation here and probably dlosing
the church altogether.
A reply to the petition praying for certain
improvements to the State School roof and
teacher's residence has been received from the
Education Department, stating that the
matter will receive attention as early as
possible,
Two notices drawing attention to the com
pulsory clause of the Education Act,, and
threatening legal proceedings if not complied
with, have been posted up in the township,
and parents would do well to bear the same
in mind.
One of the valuable prizes, viz., the fender
stool, value £5, drawn for at the late bazaar
at Blackwood, has fallen to the lot of Miss
Agnes Drysdale, of our township. The other
prizes, by their paltry nature, gave great
dissatisfaction to several parties hero, because
they had invested their money in the belief
that nothing under the value of one shilling
would be placed in the art union.
Great sympathy is felt for the widow
of poor Ward, the eoachdriver, who so unfor
tunately met his death on Tuesday. Surely
some one in the Marsh will open a subscrip
tion list for'his bereaved wife and family, as a
case of this kind should be liberally responded
to.-[The general impression at present is'
that there is no need for anything of the
kind.--ED.]
