Mr. Frank Walters
Mr. Frank Walters (86), who died
at the Port Pirie Hospital on August
13, was well known in the north,
where he had resided for 61 years. He
'was born at Wanstead, Essex (Eng
land). At the age of 15 he entered
the ofilce of a firm of London solici
tors, was later articled, admitted to
the bar, and practised on his own ac
count. He came to South Australia
in 1875, and after a few months ex
perience in an Aaeiaiae solicitors
office, practised for two years in Port
Pirie. A period of 19 years spent in
practice at Port Augusta followed,
and in 1897 he returned to Port Piria
to represent the firm of Messrs. North
more and Bertram, whose office was
eventually closed. After this engage
ment he decided to settle at Port
Pirie, where he remained till his
death. On his last birthday he was
able to claim that the combined ages
of his surviving brothers, sisters, and
his own, five persons in all, totalled
400 years, an individual average of 80
years. At Quorn in 1888, Mr. Walters
married Miss Ross, daughter of a
northern station manager, but she
died a few months later. Two bro
thers and two sisters are left. Messrs.
Ernest (Devonshire) and Sidney Wal
ters (London), and Misses Amy and
Isabella Walters (Newbury, Berk
shire).
