Mr. A. B. Webb
The death occurred yesterday of Mr.
A. Bindley Webb, formerly of Hutt
street, Adelaide, at the age of 61. Mr.
Webb, who was associate to Mr. Jus
tice Napier, was the second son of the
late Mr. William Bindley Webb, of
the firm of Dempster, Webb & Demp
ster, Port Adelaide solicitors. Mr. A.
B. Webb went to sea at the age of 13,
and after his return was a student at
St. Peter's College. Subsequently he
was apprenticed to the firm of Walter
and Morris as a carpenter, but in 1900
he began to study law, and six years
later was admitted to the Bar. He
practised at Port Adelaide, Yorke
town and Riverton, and in 1915 was ap
pointed associate to the late Mr. Jus
tice Gordon. On the appointment of
Mr. Justice Napier to the bench, Mr.
Webb was appointed his associate,
and held the position until his death.
He enlisted with the 50th Battalion,
A.I.F., in the Great War, and was in
valided home. He made extensive
notes on legal questions and judg
ments, and members of the legal pro
fession frequently went to him for re
ferences on cases. He has been in ill
health for some years.
