ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF
WATERLOO
THE GUARDS.-Tuesday being the thirty-fifth
anniversary of the memorable battle of Waterloo,
the customary,ceromony of trooping the guard
for the duty of the day was of an unusually im
posing character. A half-past nine o'clock, tie
.guards of honour at Buckingham and St. James's
:PViaces, and tie minor guards furnished by the
battallions quartered- in the metropoli, iwere
marched on to the parade ground facing the
Horse Guards, in St.-James's Park. The ground
was kept by sentinels from. the 1st bnttallion of
Scots Fusilier Guards, assisted by a detachment
of the A division of the metropolitan police. The
relinets'of the Life Guards and caps of the Foot
Guarns -were .tastefully decorated l with laurel
leaves. The.line having taken double open ordes
was liinutely inspected by the field officer on
duty. ,The guards of honour at the palaces were
then marched to the Tilt Cuardroom', preceded
'by the band, to receive the colours of the batta
lion, which" wa?s surmounted by an immense
branch of laurel; the nguards then took up a posi
tion on the riglht of tile. line, tie remainder of
thlietroops - saluting with arms presented as the
colours passed. After the customary evolutions
had been performed, the troops were smarched to
their respective guards, Several officers were
present in plain clothes, and many of the nobility
and gentry.
