Colourful R.M.C.
Ceremony Marks
Queen's Birthday
In an impressive ceremony under
ideal weather conditions the traditional
Trooping of the Colour, in celebration
of the Queen's Birthday, took place at
the Royal Military College yesterday.
The full Corps of Staff
Cadets, about 230, in full
ceremonial dress, took part
in the ceremony yesterday.
The Inspecting Officer
was the Minister of State
for the Army, Mr. J. O.
Cramer, who was accom-
panied on the parade by
the Commandant, Major-
General J. G. N. Wilton and
the Commanding Officer of
the Corps of Staff Cadets,
Colonel F. G. Hassett.
The ceremony is the same
as that which takes place
before the Queen with the
Horse Guards in London.
After precision marching
by both the Corps of Cad-
ets and the R.M.C. Band,
under Warrant . Officer I.,
R. C. L. Rignold, the Regi-
mental Sergeant-Major,
Warrant Officer I., P. Steer,
received the Colour and
handed it to the ensign.
After "God Save the
Queen" the Colour was
trooped down the line by
the escort, under the com-
mand of Under Officer M.
E. P. Burge.
The Royal Standard was
broken, signifying the ar-
rival of the Queen and the
Royal Salute given.
One of the highlights of
the ceremony were the fol-
lowing cheers for the Queen,
led by Major-General Wil-
ton.
The entire corps, with
General Wilton, took off
their caps and gave three
resounding cheers.
The parade gave another
Royal Salute as the Stand-
ard was hauled down, sig-
nifying the Queen's depart-
ure, and the Colour was
then marched off the par-
ade ground.
It is estimated that 700
adults and 200 children at-
tended the trooping.
Children from five Can-
berra pre-school play
centres and from Duntroon
Public School were invited.
Official guests, number-
ing about 300, were enter-
tained to morning tea on
the lawns of Duntroon
House following the troop-
ing, while staff cartels en-
tertained their own guests
to morning tea.
