FIRED HOUSE TO
HIDE LOOT,
POLICE ALLEGE
SYDNEY.-An allegation that an ac
:used man had admitted setting fire
to a house at Menai on October 31 in
Drder to destroy some stolen property
in it was made at the Kogarah Court
yesterday.
Clifford Alexander Maxwell, 34, a
fpig farmer, appeared on 24 charges of
theft and possession of stolen goods
valued at about £300. The police
proceeded with only one count, in
which Maxwell was charged with hav
ing on or about Octobe 23. in com
pany with Clive McMahon, 29, a poul
try farmer, of Menai, and Lancelot
McMahon, 38, a timber cutter, of the
same address, broken and entered a
dwelling at Cobbity owned by Harry
McEvoy and stolen a carpet runner.

A similar charge was preferred against
the two McMahons.
The three accused were committed
for trial.
