Most Blackouts
In Morning And
Late Afternoon
The N.S.W. power strike yes-
terday affected most Canberra
residents when they were having
their breakfast and their tea.
To cut down on power con-
sumption, Canberra electricity
authorities blacked-out areas
from 6.45 a.m. to 7.45 a.m. on the
north side, and from 8.45 a.m. to
9.45 a.m. on the south side.
Normal supply then resumed,
and housewives, could do their
housework without interruption.
At 5.15 p.m., power supplies to
some areas on the north side
were cut for half an hour, and
Deakin, Yarralumla, Forrest and
Barton were without power for
three-quarters of an hour.
At 6.30 p.m. no further black-
outs were found to be necessary.
An official of the Canberra
Electric Supply said last night
that the power strike did not
greatly affect Canberra.
Industrial circuits were gener-
ally uninterrupted and Canberra
householders had co-operated by
using a minimum of power.
