Waratah,
, 17th February, 1883.
To the Directors of the Perlpatetio Tin
mining Company.
GENTLEMEN,-In accordance with your
request, I have inspected your sections,
and now beg to tender you my report
thereon. '
The mine is situated at the base of the
Mount Heemskirk Range, and near it*
northern extremity. The rock throughout
the propertyiis a granite that« is congenial
for tin. Two lodes have been discovered,
but the mining operation* hitherto have
been confined chiefly to one of them. The
outorop of ' this lode was < first die
covered on a low ridga ''-'dividing
tiro creeks. ' and at a short distance
above their junction. Ita presence
was indicated by large nodules of
lode-stones being seen protruding above
i the surface ' of the ground, composed
of quartz, tourmaline, chlorite, and tin.
Shortly after the lode wa* discovered, a
shallow prospecting adit was driven in on
its course, which proved it toi be tin
bearing. Since then a much deeper adit
has boen driven in on the course of the
lode, which has proved it to be larger and
richer than where seen near the surface.
I took three samples from this drive. No.
1 was broken'down across the middle of
the face, which assayed 8 per cent. ; No. 2
was taken frpm the back of the drive,
and assayed 6 per cent ; No. 3, taken from
the bottom of the drive, assayed 10 percent. -
Each of ) these samples was taken fair,
and they represent the true value of the
lode at the time of my visit. The lode in
the drive ranges from 1ft. to 2ft. wide,
and is in soft ground-so soft that no
blasting materials need bo used. This is
a most favourable feature in the mine.
A little sluicing has also bean carried
on in the creek, just below the outcrop of
the lodo, and|2¿ tons of tin got out, which
astayed 72 per cent, of metal, and there
lis moro than that amount of tin left now
on the ground, from sluioing, that will
have to be orushed before it can be made
fit for market.
There is plenty of water flowing through
the creek, clono to the mine, at all seasons
of the year, for dressing purposes, so that
the lode stuff can be crushed and dressed
on the ground.
In conclusion, I would assure you that
Bhould the mine continue to open up as
it looks at present, you have a valuable
property. '
I am, yours obediently,
> WILLIAM WHITE.
Heemskirk,
AprU 30th, 1883.
To the Directors of the Peripatetic Tin
mining Company.
GENTLEMEN,-According to promise, I
have inspected your mine, and now tender
my report. ,
I paid a visit to your raine last January,
and found that the lode bad been pro-
spected on surface, and by adits being
driven to a very great extent. The lode
in many places rich fortin, but very much
broken up and disturbed. An adit deeper
than any of the others (No. 3) had been
started and driven 78ft. At 44ft. from
entrance the lode was struck with good
tin in it ; 34ft. was driven' on the course
of the lode, with good tin all the distance
and in the face. When I wa* there it
was very rich. I advised Curtain to push
on that drive as fast as possible. I also
wrote a letter to Mr. 0. A. Guesdon, ad-
vising the samo, I have again inspected
your mino, and find the drive has been
extended 69ft., making a total of 147ft.
The face is now very rich for tin. The
lode is still much broken up, making large
blocks of stone, very rich. Between these
blocks of rich stone is soft granite, car-
rying tin, but not to any great extent.
The ground is soft, and can De all worked
without blasting. It is my opinion that
at no great depth the lode will become de-
fined and this soft granite now between
the blocks of rich stone will be replaced
by stone, and the lode become regular.
This can be proved by going down the
gully and taking up another adit, which
will come in on the lode 40ft. deeper than
the present No. 3 adit. This adit can be
driven on tho course of the lode ; it
would test the same, drain the mine,
and cut out a largo block of ground,
bhould you decide to ereot maohinery at
once a shaft could bo sunk on the lodo.
You have a large quantity of atone broken
out, and in sight to break out, that would
keep a ten-head battery crushing for
Bome considerable time, that from all the
prospects I havo tried and from what I
can see will givo, at least, on an average
6 per cent, tin
If you decide to erect orushing ma-
chinery, T would advise you to put up a
ten-head battory driven by a 12-horse
portable engine. Besides driving _ the
stampers this engine would drive a 6-inch
pump to sink a shaft on the lode 100 feet.
This would test the loid to this depth, and
give you proof of its permanenoy or
otherwise. You could then ereot more
oxton si ve maohinery, and work the mine
on a moro extensive scale. At present
tho mine looks exceedingly well, and
should it continuo in depth, and there is
every indication it will be better, you
havo a most valuable property.
Tho engine, stampers, dressing appli-
ances, and pumps can be erected for £800,
if properly purohased and laid out.
You havo a very great advantage over
othor oompanies ou Heemskirk, in that you
havo very soft ground to work, no blasting
required, mi « good supply of timber
_attain«; Wette- "_
only 20 chiin* from the mine, water all
the year round for'dressing purposes, and
with no very great outlay a dam could be
made and water could be collected to
drive a water wheel 'with 20 stampers
nine months out of twelve!
I am. Gentlemen,!
Yours respectfully,
THOMAS «. WILLIAMS.
