of lady and gentlemen visitors, an amateur
company performed the " Lady of Lyons," in the
large ward of the Brickfields Invalid Asylum.

Disgraceful Proceeding On Sunday afternoons
it is the practice of a number of boys to
congregate at different street corners for the
purpose of gaming and indulging in all kinds of
mischief at Battery Point, Murray-street between
Patrick and Warwick streets, in the New Town
Road and other localities. Last Sunday between two
and three o'clock, considerable damage was done
to the house of Mr. Smart, shopkeeper, corner of
King-street and Upper Elizabeth-streets, by
stone throwing. Some neighbors' children, whose
names are known, were the supposed delinquents,
and the police have been instructed in the subject
with a view to check the mischief. We have
already called attention to the wholesale window
breaking at Battery Point.
Weiosfts and Measures. We have not seen
the Inspector of weights and measures and his
go cart about recently. That elaborately
decorated vehicle in which are conveyed the
" almighty standards," seems to have been for
some time sewed up in the marketplace, a proof,
we presume, of the universal appreciation which
our tradesmen entertain of the value of that
charming motto which recommends " honesty as
the best policy." However, we all know that, "
accidents will happen and the occasional
regulation of the scales is a very necessary process
to guard alike the tradesman and the customer,
the one from short weight in _ these dear times,
and the other from the possibility of giving more
than due allowance. As a rule we have every
confidence in the probity of our tradesmen, but
there are " black sheep in every flock," as Mr.
Thomas has more than once demonstrated, and
the occasional airing of the standards" is a
wholesome preventive measure which should not
be allowed to fall into disuse.
A NUMBER of Belgian officers waited upon the
editor of the Jftcaut, and demanded that he
should fight one or more of the lot. The editor
picked out a lieutenant colonel, but wounded him
so grievously that the Minister of War has forbidden
the officers of the regiment to fight again
with the editor.
