rOOD & CO'S COMPOUND EXTRACT
OF SARSAPARILLA,
For tHe removal and cure of Chronic Rheumatism,
Rheumatic and Gouty Pains, Scurvy,
Scrofula, Primary and Secondary Syphilis, In
moving, Ulcers,Blotcbe8,Boil8,Piuiples,andother
Skin Diseases, to remove the symptoms arising
from an injudicious use of Mercury, and especially
to purify and cleanse the blood and body.
The proprietors introduce this preparation to
public notice with confidence that it will be found
to be a reliable and certain alterative in the
above complaints.
'I he Genuine Red Jamaica Sarsaparilla, of
which this is composed, has long been cele
be used and recommended by the most celebrated
Physicians of Europe and America as an effi
various alternative, diaphoretic, and tonic, but
this preparation holding other valuable drugs
in combination, render it far more useful than
Sarsaparilla alone would be.
The mode of its inunuinciure is such that it
is always of the same strength, and can, therefore,
be relied on, and as powerful as it is possible
to make it. The virtues of this Sursupu
mills have been tried by long and careful
experiments, and we can, without fear of contradiction,
assert that no other preparation of
the kind can prove so effectual as a remedial
agent in this.
But we distinctly wish it to be understood
that we do not announce our Sarsaparilla as a
certain remedy for every disease to which the
human frame is subject, but simply as a reliable
and active remedy for those disorders arising
from an impure or disordered state of the blood.
During the last few years the public have
been sadly missed. by pi operations of Sursapa
rifle, most or which were deliberate frauds, as
they contain little, if any, Sarsaparilla, and
that little the most inferior and worthless sort.
One of the first chemists of the present age,
and one of the meat unscrupulous exporters of
quackery and deception of every kind, Arnold
J. Cooley, Esq makes the following report on
some that he examined.
'. The articles recently so much puffed under
the names of * American or United States Sar-
sarsparilla,' are nothing more than the decoction
of a common herb, a sorted ' Araliu,' inhabiting
the swamps and marshes of the United States.
When cut up it has the appearance of Chaff,
but not the slightest resemblance in color,
character, or taste, to even the most inferior
species of Smilax, or Sarsaparilla. The decoction
or I may say, the cabbage water, dish that is
nearer the taste of it in the first stage, is
sweetened with a little sugar (or treacle)
favored With Benzoin and Sassafras, and finally
preserved from decomposition by means of the
Bichloride of Mercury (Corrosive Sublimate).
I have heard of several cases of deadly sickness
and other dangerous symptoms following its
use.''
undone of the English journals, the Medical
Circular, in the second volume, page 227, says,
in reference to the same
^ " We do not believe that a particle of real
Sarsaparilla ever entered into the composition
either of-the articles referred to."
In consequence of the disappointment result-
ing from the use of such disgraceful deceptions,
the public have begun to despise all preparations
of Sarsaparilla; therefore, in order to supply
their vt ants, Hood and, Co. have compounded this
preparation, and intend to keep it as a remedy
that cannot fail to become a standard medicine
in the Australian Colonies.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
The Sarsaparilla is to be taken in a dose of
one tablespoon fat, in a little water three
times a-day, after meals j and this is to be
continued until the system and the blood are
noted on, when the disorder will begin to disappear.
While taking this Sarsaparilla a change
of climate, place-, habits of living or diet would
be desirable, and would greatly aid in effecting
a cure. Enforce cleanliness, and take plenty
of out-door exercise. Uso cold bathing, if
possible, in the Ben. Use nourishing and healthy
diet, avoiding the excess of animal food, and
take no wine, spirits, ale, or porter,

This preparation effects a one in a few days;
producing permanent case by its extraordinary
virtue in destroying the sensibility of and removing
the Corn. It contains no caustic or
corrosive substance, and A cure is certain,
if the dirt actions are followed. The universal
' success which has attended the introduction of
the Solvent throughout the colony Iiub surpassed
the most sanguine expectations of the pro
pnetoi'B, they having, in the last two years, sold
the enormous quantity of sixteen thousand
bottles.
Messrs. Hood & Co. would draw the attention

from a vast number they have been favored

acknowledged excellence of this preparation.
