THi; LEAGUE.
Tue Honorary secretary or tue league lias lurmshed
us with the following report:—
" On Tuesday evening last this body had a subsidiary
meeting at the London Tavern, Eaglehawk, for the pur-:
pose of explaining the objects of the movement and
appointing a local committee. The attendance was not
very large, in consequence of the organising cammittee
having arrived an hour after the appointed time for hold
ing the meeting, and a large number of persons having
left nnder the impression that no meeting would be held.
The chair was taken by Mr. Thomas Monabau, aud a
resolution expressive of the determination of the meeting
to support the League was proposed by Mr. Macartney,
seconded by Mr. TIioiusju, in a long and able speech,
supported by Mr. Denovan, in an excellent and effective
address, and carried unanimously. A second resolution,
proposed by Mr. Croker, and seconded by Mr. Harrison,
was carried, appointing the following genflanieu a local
committee, with power to add to their number :—Messrs.
Lister, Croker, Armstrong, M'Crae, Waite, Turner, Kerr,
Murdoch, Young, Morgan, and Haslett.
