having been read, tho applications, five in

City Missionary, Rev. Mr. Dixon, Rev. G. B.
Smith, and the Ven. Archdeacon Davies.
The latter application was withdrawn by a

Tho applications of Mr. Smales and Mr.
Coggin « ere rejected on tho ground that they
wero not ordained olergymeu.
Dr, OrFiciiR moved that the meeting bo ad-
journed in oonsjquonce of an informality in tho
advertisement which invited a " Protestant
Chaplain" instead of " a minister of the Church
of England." The object of the motion was
stated to bo to afford clergymen of that denom-
ination further timo to make application.
Mr. Lewis oppqsed the motion, as he thought
the advertisement was sufQciont, and that " Pro-
testant Chaplain," us a matter of course included
Clergymen of the Church of England, in proof
of which, the only clergymen who had applied
were members of the Church of England. He
also objected beeauso postponing the election,
under the ciroumstiiuocs, would be tantamount lo
saying those who lind complied with the adver-
