SUPREME COURT.—OATLANDS,
Befor His Honor the Chief Justice and a Jury
of twelve.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1.
Peter M'Donald was found guilty of breaking
and entering the dwelling of Charles Cleave, and
stealing one knife value 1s., and other articles,
his property.
Richard Innis, Patrick Lyons, Francis Brigan,
and Charles Evans, were charged with a burglary
in the dwelling of Jonas Pearson, and stealing a
coat value 20s., and other articles, his property.
Innis, Guilty, and sentencod to be transported for
life, Lyons, Brigán, and Evans Not Guilty.
Edward Knight was found Guilty of stealing one
spade, value 3s. 6d., the property of George Me-
redith. Sentenced to twelve months' imprison-
ment and hard labour. Mr. Montagu defended
the prisoner.
Samuel Walters was found Guilty of feloniously
receiving 104 sheep, the property of the Messrs.
Smith, of Ross. Mr. Macdowell defended the
prisoner.
The Court adjourned at nine o'clock in the
evening until nine o'clock the following morning.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2.
John Bailey and Thomas Dennard, Not Guilty
of receiving a set of cart harness, and other arti-
cles, the property of Napoleon Gilbert. Remanded.
.Mr. Macdowell appeared for Bailey, and Mr.
Brewer for Dennard.
Michael Daley, Not Guilty of feloniously re-
ceiving one hat, value 10s., and other articles, the
property of Charles Kittey. Remanded. Mr.
Macdowell defended the prisoner.
Michael Daley was found guilty of stealing one
hat, value 10s., and other articles, the property of
Charles Kittey. Sentenced to seven years'trans-
portation.
Charles Reeves was found Guilty of stealing a
horse, value £4, the property of Daniel O'Connor.
George Howard and Walter McCrea were found
Guilty of stealing one sheep, value 12s., the pro-
perty of Robert Jones. Mr. Macdowell appeared
for the prisoners.
Robert Briggs was found Guilty of stealing a
sheet, value 4s.. the property of Gregory Bateman.
Sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment and
hard labour.
Thomas Dennard was acquitted of stealing cart
harness, the property of Napoleon Gilbert.
The Court adjourned at half-past seven, until
nino o'clock the following morning.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3.
Daniel Kehely was found Guilty of assaulting
Margaret Bilfield, with intent to commit a rape.
This prisoner was a private of the 11lth Regt.,
and stationed at Bothwell ; the assault was of an
aggravated character, and but for the screams of
the woman the prisoner would have accomplished
his purpose ; the husband and others hearing her
cries, hastened to the spot, and thus providentially
saved the prisoner's life.
Thomas Kay and Daniel Hatfield, Not Guilty of
stealing and receiving two sheep, or their skins,
ihe property of William Murray. Key was dis-
charged, and Hatfield remanded. Mr. Macdowell
appeared for the prisoners.
John Brown, Not Guilty of assaulting Samuel
Martin, and robbing him of 2s. It appeared from
the evidence that the prosecutor was at the time
of the robbery, messenger at the Jericho station,
and proceeding to Oatlands on the day laid in the
information, when within two miles of the town-
ship, he was attacked by the prisoner and two
other men, who were armed with sticks. The
prisoner called three witnesses, who were working
with him in the Oatlands wood gang on the day
in question, and they swore that the prisoner was
not out of their sight between breakfast and dinner
on the day named in the information.

shoep, the property of .lohn Page, with intent to
steal tho carcase. Remanded.
William Hunt and William Cowlmy v. ere found
Guilty of breaking and entering tho dwelling of
Henry Cockerill, and stealing one box and half a
pound of onion seed, value 2s . and other articles,
the property of Cockerill. It appeared from the
i «vidonoo, that tho prisoners were private soldiers
of the 11th Regt., and the property was found
' upon them immediately after the lobbery. His |
Honor, in remanding these men, said ho strongly
suspected their object was to got awav from the
army, out ho should disappoint thom in the sen-
tence he should pass upon them.
William Zangstone and William Pfckthnrnc were
found Guilty of breaking and entering tho dwel-
ling of William Mackaj. and stealing two table
covers, and other articles, above the value of £5
The Court roso at half-post seven, until nine
o'clock the following morning.
SATURDAY, October 4
George Holloway, Not Guily of stealing two
sheep, value 16s., the property of Edwin Boultliee.
Daniel Hatfield. Guilty of receiving two sheep-
skins, value 4s.. tho property of Edwin Boultbee,
well knowing the same to have been stolen. Sen-
tenced to 14 years' transportation
Isaac Johnson and Charles Hatch wore found
Guilty of burglary in the dwelling of James Brock,
and stealing two pairs of trowsers, value 10s.., and
other articles, his property. Each sentenced to
be transported for life.
Thomas Kitminster. Was found Guilty of stealing
one sheep, value 10s , the property of John Page.
William Cherry was found Guilty of stealing one
sheep, value 10s., the property of Edward Bowden.
Sentenced to be transported for life.
Rtibert Bullock, discharged by proclamation.
The prisoners convicted were brought up, and
sentenced as follows ;
Peter M'Donald, two years' imprisonment and
hard labour.
Daniel Kehely, two j ears' imprisonment lind
