defeated Wakefield Trinity yesterday, J

Desbite the heavy around giving an j
ndvantage to the home team the Aus
tralians' dash, rapid backing up and ad
mirable combination completely non
plussed their opponents in the first half.
They showed perfect understanding j
behind the pack, which was superior in
eJose work, and the three-quarters gave
a fine display of speed and handling.
Ridley opened the scoring with a
beautiful try, running through the whole
defence, .ami Brown converted. Doyle
secured an excellent second try. Browu
failed to convert but he scored two
penalty goals.
LOCAL MEN RALLY
In the second half Wakefield rallied,
but their three-quarters were unable to
make ground, except by short kicking.
Bonuer seized their only chances of
scoring, dropping two goals from play.
Thompson scored a penalty goal. Wake
fa' eld continued to be aggressive until the
last few minutes, when the Australians'
onslaught resulted in a try, which Brown
converted.
The attendance totalled 5396 and the
receipts £441.
