opinions from all lovera o. „
them, and I heir tout was a v,.
Since then they have been rp-orgaoiz^u,
conaiderably strengthened. Last week they
re appeared in Adelaide in a aeries of omoerts,
and were favored with large attendances, and
maintained ' he good opinion previously formed
of them. Wheo they finished their Beasun io
Adelaide the Company divided into two.
Several Adelaide boys, and one or two other
Adelaide aiogero were engaged, and one division
was appointed to toar the eastern states, and
the other Western Australia. A portion of
the Ccmpany oame to Mount Gamber on
Saturday, and that evening and Monday night
gave ooncerta in tbe Institute Hall here. Ths
parly consisted of a lady, five mea
(one ao acoompaoyis'.), and four. boys.
One of the mea was Mr. M. Ohenoweih,
R.A.U,, Land., a well - known Adelaide
vocalist. There was gome disappointment that
Mr. Bfaasaombe and Miss Hoo'.on (the con
tralto) did not oome, as announced in the billa,
but iu ihsir p'.aoe were Miss River»dale, a
mpzz) soprano, and Mr. F, Romney, R.A M.,
a tioe baaao. On Siturday night the atten
dance of ths publio was moderate. Toe pro
gramme contained 14 lines, but eno >res made
the numbers quite 20. Tbe contorted pieoas, in
wbic1! the four boyB and three m«n sang,
Bfn-med to be moat eojoyed by the audience.
Tiie boys' tteble w«a deliaionaly soft and
mnladiouB, »nd the rich voiona of the men made
a very phasing balance. They were reoalled
for iheir finely modulated and ittu'erly
Eendeciog of " Hush thee, my b*by " (Sulli
van), sod saog in reepoope the grand old
balled,1 H»il, spiling ntoiB." whieh they g>va
with much spirit and feeling. They were
equally successful with "God is a Spirit"
(Sterndale Bennett). In the old English
| nursery rhymes they were very warmly ap
preciated, and were recalled and responded
with "The dawn of morning'" The lads were
also well received in their duets and solos,
Masters Watters and Sbeppard were recalled
for their prettily Bang "Song of Flowers"
(Gerald Lane), and responded with " I know
a bank" (Horn). Master Watters was also
recalled for his aaag "Lore was oaoe a little
boy " (Wade), and responded niih the beautiful
"Lullaby, baby." which was even better
rendered. Mr. Ohenoneth was recalled for
his vigorous presentation of " Margarita"
(Lihr). Miss Riversdale's efforts were all
highly appreciated, for she sane with a perfect
finish and muob sweetness. Her songii were
" Oome lads and lasses " and " Rory O'More,"
for both of which she was reoalled. Answering
to the encore for the latter she sang her
best song of the evening, " Sing me to sleep,"
which she gave with delightful softness and
expression. In the catoh, "Poor Thomas
Diy," the gentlemen of the party presented to
a Mount Gambier Audience something with
which they were quite unacquainted, and tha
peculiar intermingling of the words oansed
considerable merriment. Catches are seldom
suDg now-a days, but were very popular in the
early part of the 19 h century. In the
quartet, "Sweet and low," whioh the gentle
men with Mas'Br Watters sang in response to
a recall for " I love my love, they were sig
nally successful. Mr, Bomney hsB a p'eosing
baBS, and his " Village Blaoksmith " (WeisB)
was a fine effort. He was reoalled and sang
"A dear little girl." Mr, B'jwlaud Heury, a
humorist, afforded the audience a pleasing
ohaoga twioe in the course of the concert. He
is an adept at oomio musical sketches, laugh
able stories, and mimiory.
The Party gave their second concert in the
InBtitme Halt on Monday evening in the
presenoe of a full house. The programme
presented was on the same lines bb that given
on Saturday evening, but the numbers were all
new.
