of the 1950 Mid-Century
Royal Show, expected to
be the biggest and most
successful yet.
Today they ignored showers
which began to fall soon after
8 a.m. and the judging of
horses and cattle began on
schedule at 9 a.m.
Royal Agricultural. Society I
officials said they were 'not
in the least worried' about, the
threatening weather signs
early today. They expected
record attendances.
A few light falls of rain
today would be an advantage,
because they would settle dust
and harden the ground
The society's new cattle
stalls today accommodated
almost a record number of
cattle.
Sheep exhibits were.: smaller
than in recent years, possibly
because of the current high
wool prices.
Only a few visitors came to
the gates in the first few
hours of opening toda-«»
But streams of cars and
trucks caused intermittent
traffic blocks in the roads
throughout the Showground.
Registration plates on cars
and trucks showed that their
owners had come from as far
