Man Hurt Giving Aid
Two men had their hands
crushed in a conveyor belt
early today when one tried to
help his workmate after the
workmate had been caught in
the machinery.
The first man injured had
practically freed himself
when his friend was injured
helping him.
Taken to Royal Perth Hos-
pital were George William
Judd (43), of Chapman-rd.,
Cannington, and Grabor
Bereczky (25), of Hay-st,
West Perth.
Both have multiple lacera-
tions of their left hands and
shock and Bereczky has a
probable fracture of one
finger.
The accident occurred at the
Universal Milling Co., Welsh-
pool, about 5.30 a.m.
A piece of rock jammed a
conveyor belt at the factory.
According to a report to the
police Judd tried to spin the
belt free but his hand was
caught between the belt and a
pulley.
When Bereczky went to his
assistance and caught the
belt to free Judd, his hand was
also jammed.
