Jockey
Wins For
Stepfather
PROMINENT jockey
Frank Treen won the
Grant Handicap (2) at
Headquarters today for his
new stepfather.
Winner was 50/1- chance
Balkama, the longest-priced
winner of Treen's career.
Balkama was the second
50/1 winner in successive
races. The other was Hus-
sar who paid at the rate of
124½/1 on the tote.
Balkama' s owner, Mr. A.
S. Haddy, married Treen's
mother a fortnight ago.
It was the first time
Treen had ridden for Mr.
Haddy.
'I didn't take the ride
because it was a good one,
but only because it was
my stepfather's horse,'
said Treen after the race.
Baldy's win in the Hill-
man Handicap was another
family success.
Lessee-owner R. W. Mel-
lor is a brother-in-law of
winning jockey F. Moore.
