'LAYING ON HANDS.'
NEW YORK, June 6. ?,.
xmnareos ox persons MT{ici;ed with phy
sical, and .mental-ailments have. besieged St.
Paul's Chapol, where- during the last 24
hours Mr. Robert Bell, an Episcopalian
minister 'from.' Denver' (Colorado) has ef
fected miraculous cures by the layinje-on
of haiids. The croTrcT.in the' church, after
watching cripples, approach for treatment
and throw avray their crutches, became
highly emotional, and surged, 'forward into
the chancel. Women became hysterical,
many, fainting: -at -the evidence of. the mir
aculous powers of Mr. P.eil, who continued
calmly his treatments while the vicar sum
moned police reserves to prevent a riot.
Tbe pa-tients included Roman Catholics,
Protestants, Jews; and atheists, all' of
whom exposed afflicted organs, on which
Mr. Bell made the sign of the Cross, in
voking Divine love to make the body whole.
Many eases did x-t respond to the treat
ment, but the awe-struck audience noted
that deafness was cured almost unfailing
ly, and that several paralj-tic persons re
gained their powers.
A- most remarkable, cure was that o£ a
jrirl of four years, whose weak bones bad
never been able to support her., Mr. Bell
placed bis hands upon her limb's, when the
child began a trance-like walk down the
aisle to the outer steps, where she posed
smilingly for sorne photographers.
Mr. Bell' disclaims all personal attributes,
saying: 'I have no . power whatever. It
is simply God, Whose love acts through
me.' . .
