MOTORIST ON TRIAL
Poole Pleads Not Guilty
A Criminal Court case, in which con
siderable public interest is centred, and
which is not expected to finish until
Friday, was commenced before Mr. Jus
tice Draper and jury this afternoon.
Lionel Charles Grenvold Poole, a
young Fremantle man, pleaded not
guilty to a charge of having unlawfully
killed Harold Yeomans at Beaconsfield
on May io last.
The Crown case, which was presented I
by the Crown Prosecutor (Mr. C. B.
Gibson), alleged that Poole was under
the influence of liquor on the night in
question, and was driving a motor-car
which ran over Yeomans, a 15-year-old
lad- It was alleged that Poole con
tinued for about 400 yards, with the
bicycle and Yeomans dragging under,
his car. before pulling up. i
Fifteen witnesses have been sum
moned to give evidence in support of
the Crown case. Poole is being de
fended by Mr. M. G. Lavan, K.C., and
Mr. Frank Unmack.
