A 21-year-old son of former Prime Minister
of Australia the late Joseph Lyons arrived in
Perth today with the Tasmanian amateur foot
ball team.
He is university law student Brendan Lyons —
5st. llin., 13st. 61b. Brendan Lyons has just fin
ished canvassing for two of his brothers who are
standing for election to the Tasmanian ' Parlia
ment.
He is now doing -third year law, says he might follow
in his father's footsteps 'one of these days.'
A former secretary of the university branch of the
Liberal Partv. he is keenly
interested in the political
activities of his famous
mother Dame Enid Lyons,
MHR.
One Of Eleven
Brendan is the seventh
eldest in a family of 11
children — five boys and six
girls — most of whom are
actively connected with poli
tics.
His 20-year-old brother
Barry is Tasmania's repre-
sentative at the Australian
Young Liberals' conference
in Melbourne; one married
sister was vice-president of
the Devonport branch of the
Liberal Party and another
sister is a committee mem
ber.
When he returns home
Brendan will be in time to
help his brothers Desmond
(31) and Kevin (25) during
the last few days before the
elections.
Dame Enid is campaign
ing for them and other mem
bers of the family are can
vassing.
A former Tasmanian Pre
mier, the late Joseph Lyons
was PM of Australia from
1932 until his death in 1939.

Bad Knee
After treatment for a
poisoned knee at Kalgoorlie
hospital a Tasmanian ama
teur footballer went to Royal
Perth Hospital on arrival by
train today.
He is 28-year-old Ambrose
Haley who was a POW in
Germany for three years.
His condition is much im
proved and he is expected to
be fit for the opening car
nival game — Tasmania v.
South Australia at Subiaco
Oval on Saturday.
One of the most dis
appointed men in Perth to
day was the father of Tas
mania's outstanding foot
baller Emmerson Rod well.
Mr. Rodwell came to
Perth recently to await the
arrival of his son, who was
captain of the team.
But Rodwell (junr.) was
not with the party today
because of a chipped bone
in his ankle.
Substitute skipper is 20
year-old Max Rees, the
youngest captain in the car
nival.
