RIVER RACING

MODERATE BREEZE
Six riverside ancf one ocean sailing
club conducted yacht races this after
noon in a west-nortli-weEterly breezs of
a moderate nature. .Events decided over
the Bricklanding . course were: Royal
Perth Yacht Club (Forrest Gup); Perth
Dinghy Club (club handicap and eighth
iriterstate selection test) ; .A.N.A. Semi
Itater Club (club handicap.) ; Perth Ply
ing Squadron (16-foot skiff handicap).
At Freshwater Bay the skiffs, ci*ulsers,
and speed-boats ..-registered _ \yith the
Freshwater Bay Yacht' Club' vied with
each other. in their respective divisions'
for sweepstakes, whilst at the Ffemahtie
end of the river the Swan Yacht Club's
raters, cruisers arid dinghies, . were sche
duled to compete- in two club handicap
events over a course between the trafhc
bridge and the Harvest-road spit. -The
weli-riggfed fleet attached to the . Fre
inaritle Sailing Club raced over a tri
angular course off South Beach.
ROYAL PERTH YACHT CLUB
Teh units of .the sa.iling fleet 'regis-,
tefed with the Iloyal Perth Yacht Club
were handicapped! Eldora, the 21-25
restricted class boat, owned and sailed
by Mr. W. G. Green,- was placed on
the scratch mark in ail breezes; The
riames of the' other contestants which
appeared on the starters' lists were Mari
fDhu, Mercedes, Berririgarra, Ailsa,
Genevieve, ' Wungura, iblanthe, Medina
II. and Roma. . . . . .

The speedy semi-rate:r fleet iriade fast
times in tbday's race for club prize
money; The breeze was ., eminently
suitable for this type of racing craft
and the various unite of the fleet fairly,
itvelled in the sdmewhat heavy going.
Miranda was- placed on the scratch mark
in all breezes. Others appearing bri
the official prbgrairime were:. Schemer,
Ratdiant, Loloriia, White Cloud, Hus'tler,
Glenoha, Silhouette arid RHddarithe.'
The last mentioned was the limit
marker.
PERTH DINGHY CLUB.
Foiirteeh trim little. 14-fo6ters .'were.
enumerated on the official programme of
the Perth Dinghy Cliifr as cohtestahts in
a handicap race for club prize money.
The event, in additibri, comprised^ the
eighth; test race for iriterstate selection.
The fleet was sent away on a flying
start, arid the boats presented a spleri-;
did sight as they crossed the line closely
bunched' together. ?
PERTH FLYING SQUADRON.
The Perth iB-fbot skiffs race'd under
the burgee of the Perth Flying Squadron;,
arid ten boats were handicapped to start.
A noticeable absentee from the fleet was
Velore, the State chatripion, which left
for Hobart aboard the Manunda this af
ternoon. Lily arid Marjorie started from
scratch and conceded the limit boat,
Whiteheart, 14 minutes In the prevailing
breeze; ' ? : . . . .... .
FRESHWATER BA? YACHT CLUB.
The fleets bi cruisers, skiffs, and speed
boats connected with the Freshwater
Bay -Yacht Cliib competed in unofficial
sweepstake races. Despite the fact. that.
the events were iriipromptu, the entries
for the various classes were gbod.
SVyAN YACHT CLUB.
The large number of boats facing
under the jurisdiction of the Swan Yacht
Club were sent away in two divisions.
The 'A' class section contested the
'W. W. Murphy' handicap, whilst the
'B' section event was termed the 'C.
Crowe' handicap.
FREMANTLE SAILING CLUB.
Britannia. Matelbe Mariner. Kbofarie;
The Fan, Gynthe, Valkyr, Merry Maid,
Edna, Rene Miy, Milrd& and Miami
comprised the fl£et nominated to cdri*
test the Fremahtle Sailing Cltib's' Hari
dlcap face off South Beach; Tlie event
was witnessed from the shore by a larg?
number of yachting enthusiasts.
