doctor! nurse
TO YACHT
.;....' .SYDNEY' Thursday.
In answer to a call for help from
the American steam, yacht Viking, .
the Canadian Australian liner Nia
gara today turned off her course ;
and placed a doctor, and nurse
aboard to perform an operation
upon a member of the yacht's
crew.
The commander of the Niagara, Cap
tain Martin, told of the sea drama to
day in the terse terms of a wireless
message to the Sydney office of the
lin. .
The . Niagara was between Suva and
Honolulu when the message was re
ceived from the Viking.
Captain Matrin said that the Niagara
made a rendezvous with the yacht and
that Dr.. J. A. Newell, of Melbourne,
and Miss Jackson, nurse, fifom Bristol,
England, were sent across 'for inten
ded operation.'
The Niagara ''lost about two hours'
steaming time, but the message does
not say definitely whether . the opera
tion wa? performed or whether the
doctor and nurse were able to rejoin
the liner.
In Sydney, it is thought that Captain
Martin kept the Niagara standing by
till the operation was completed. Dr.
Newell was booked through to Van
couver. . . .
