DEATH OF
ROBERT THOMAS CUNDY.
The death occurred suddenly on
Monday afternoon of Mr Thomas
Cundy, aged 51, of Wollombi, while
he was engaged in working on a pro-
perty at Howe's Valley. With Mr
S. McMullen, deceased was engaged
in ringbarking trees on land owned
by Messrs McMullen and Harris,
about five miles on the Putty side
of the Howe's Valley post office. Mr
McMullen left to secure a fresh axe,
and on his return nearly an hour
later he found Mr Cundy lying at the
foot of a tree apparently dead. The
Singleton police and ambulance were
notified, and the body was conveyed
to a doctor's surgery in Singleton,
where life was pronounced extinct
and the body taken to the mortu-
ary. (Reference is made in this
column to the difficulties encoun-
tered by the police and ambulance
in reaching the body and bringing
it back to Singleton). Deceased,
who is stated to have been suffer-
ing from heart trouble recently,
was born at Scone, but had resided
in the Wollombi and Singleton dis-
trict for the last 12 years, where he
had been employed on several
farms. He was an ex-serviceman
of the A.1.F., and the "Lest We For-
get" pennant of the local sub-
branch of the R.S. and S.I. League
was flown from the Municipal
Council Chambers when his death
was reported. Deceased was a
single man, and leaves one brother,
Mr William Cundy, of Singleton,
and two sisters, Mesdames T. Haw-
kins (Murrurundi) and G. Fogarty
(Nundle). The funeral took place
at the Church of England ceme-
tery at mid-day to-day. Mr H.
Roberts was in charge of funeral
arrangements.
