APATHY OF ROAD BOAED
At the meeting of the Central Can
ning and Queen's Park Progress Asso
ciation, held on Tuesday night, it was
decided to forward a protest to the Go
vernment regarding the apathy of the
Canning District Road Board in adopt
ing higher valuations and higher rates.
The chairman of the association (Mr.
R. Riehter) stated subsequently that
the association wanted to eee construc
tive works pushed ahead in the district,
and it was impossible to carry on these
works on the present revenue. The board
had opposed the adoption of higher
valuations, and Mr. Rlchter said that
the only reason which he could surmise
was that it would prejudice the interests
ot large landholders. The association was
also protesting against the action of
the road board in rating the special
area on the annual value, Inetead of
the unimproved value. A sub-committee
had been appointed to go into the mat
ter of raising funds for the relief of
necessitous cases In the district, and
it was decided to seek the co-operation
of other bodies in securing an improved
railway service.
