! PRICE OF WALES
VISITS MICH i JULY
L SIX WEEKS' HOLIDAY 1
It is' almost certain, '{he 'Daily Mail'
?learns, that the Prince of Wales will visit
his Canadian ranch at .High Eiver, Al
berta, next July. If so, lie will stay there
possibly from sis- to- ei^ht weeks.
It is -intended that the visit shall be
a thorough rest for the Prince, who will be
free from all official and social engage
ments in the remote rusticity of his sim
ple but snu£ Canadian home.
Circumstances permitting, the Prince has
accepted- the invitation, of the Government
of Canada to participate in the celebration
at, Ottawa on July 1 of the diamond jubi
lee of the Confederation . of Upper and
Lower Canada. He is likely to be ac
companied by Mr. Baldwin, the Prime
3Iraister.
Professor W. L. Caiiyle, the manager of
&.Q Prince's ranch, who sailed for Canada
in the Canadian-Pacific Railway liner
-\Iontclare from Greenock, visited the prin
cipal stock-raising areas of England and
Scotland 'with the object of increasing and
introducing new blood to the Prince's
studs and .herds.
Until now the Prince's horses in Can
ada have been of the heavy 'iype and his
ponies. .have been of the rougher and
sturdy breeds. It is likely that he may
soon introduce to the ranch as an ex
periment British thoroughbreds of tho
hunter ^ class' and ponies which confona
more to the polo tvpe.
Already the'E.P. ranch, as it is known,
is one of the foremost cattle-breeding es
tablishments in Western Canada, and tho
Prince proposes to develop it as such by
adding considerably to his pedigree Short
horn herd, which at present numbers about
?100 head, and to his flock of 120 pure
' Hampshire sheep.
