US Fliers Will
'See Australia'
Through months of air opera
tions in forward areas six Ameri
can airmen cherished their am
bition to 'see Australia' until the
need for planning Army Trans
port Command's work presented
them with their opportunity.
They reached Perth by plane from
an American northern operational
area last week and have just left
after having had' their conferences
with local U.S. Army officials.
'Some of the fliers were lucky
enough to have accumulated overdue
leave from their operations and will
be able to 'see Australia' during their
official trip,' said Lieut-Colonel W.
A. Dunton, jun. U.S. Army represen
tative in Perth, with whom they had
their first conferences.
'Such interest in Australia as to
impel these officers to spend months
planning their work and. leave so as
really to get to know Australia arid
Australians is indicative of the wide
spread attention this country has re
ceived among Americans.
'It is a healthy sign for good post
war relationships,' said Lieut.Colo
nel Dunton as he waved goodbye to
his fellow officers. ? .
