On Floor In Pool of Blood.
BUNBURY, Tues — Mid-
dle-aged soldier Harry Tho-
mas was charged in Bun-
bury Police Court today with
having assaulted his wife,
Desmah May Thomas, at
Bunbury, on March 4, caus-
ing grievous bodily harm.
According to the evidence, Tho-
mas, who is separated from his
wife, visited her home in Carey
Street to see his children.
A lodger heard a scream and Mrs
Thomas was found lying on the floor
in the kitchen unconscious in a pool
of blood.
Accused's six-year-old daughter
gave evidence that she had seen Tho-
mas with an axe in his hand strike
her mother with it.
Mrs Thomas, who is still an inpa-
tient at Bunbury District Hospital,
collapsed while taking the oath and
had to be assisted from the Court.
She gave her evidence later, but
could not remember anything which
happened on the day she received her
injuries.
She said that Thomas came to the
house when on leave to see the child-
ren, usually abused her through the
back door. He did not come inside.
She had obtained a separation from
him on the ground of cruelty.
Medical evidence was that there
was a wound, nearly three inches
long, in Mrs Thomas's forehead and
she had suffered a compound de-
pressed fracture, though a successful
operation had been performed.
A heavy blow was needed to have
caused the injuries.
Mrs Thomas's, name had been on
the danger list for three weeks.
