Wiliam Chandon, a short, nuggety
man, wearing a pu-rple turban, dar*
brown sac suit, a dtrty shirt and n«
collar or ttte, and' more like a dark
skinned European -than an Afghan in
apeaxance, but descrited jn the pol-ce
books as an Afghan herbalist, was
before Mr. W. A. G. Walter, -P.M., la
the City Court (th!s 'morning, on re
ttfiuid. Chandcm, who was undefended,
was charged; with that ho' at Perth on
April II did unlawfully and, with in
tent to injure »??' one . ... Mary Elizabeth
Teague administer, to. her, the said
Mary Elizabeth^ Teague, a certain
poisonous substance, and thereby did
the said Mary Elizabeth Tesfgue griev
ous bodily harm':'
Sergeant Thomas, - for ' the police,
asked for a further 'remand for eigJrt

applied for bail, which was refused.

During 'the day Mrs. .Tcague, .who is
in the Perth Public Hospital, took a
decided change for. the worse, causing
great anxiety ' to the - medical men
watching her. Upon, the detective
'authorities, being informed of her( low
condition, -arrangements were at once
made for additional evidence to that
already obtained, ..being taken from
Mrs. Teague. With that object in
view,- Mr. W. A. G. Walter, P.M., was

notified, and he ,made an appointment
to- attend', the hospital at A ..o'clock and
take the. ''additional depositions.
Chandon was 'also , notified, and' in
formed he would be taken up to the
hospital, so as to be present at the
examination. ' ' '
It is stated th!at Mirs. Teague has
'now sunk so low 'that her recovery cam '

Ever since Chandon's arrest 'the
