FREMANTLE CORPORATION.
' A special meeting of the Freniantle Cor
poration was held on Friday evening.
Pres-'iit — His Worship the Mayor and Crs.
Solomon, Congdon, Snook, Albert, Haley,
Davies and Samson. The Mayor read a
letter he had received from Messrs. Grainger
and D'Ebro, stating that they were pleased
to nil:! t.ie work ct tho Town Hall turn out
so well. They thought it would be better
to all; 'W Jlessrs. 'Wright Bros, to represent
them as architects for the Town Hali, Day
ing them a commission of 2J per cent.,
otherwise it would be necessary to obtain an
architect in Fremantle. The Mayor thought
it iilso necessary to secure a Clerk of Works.
The contractor would not start unless the
line ot work he set out. u ho should the
Council appoint to look over the work ? Cr.
Albeit considered the Clerk of Works should
be present during the whole of the work from
trie laying of the foundation stone. Cr.
CongiTon asked if it would not be as well to
appoint Mr. Foreman ; *-ut preferred to
leavicg the matter entirely in the hands of
Messrs. Wright Bros. Cr. Solomon thought
Wright Bros, evidently expected to be
Clerk of Works. The Mayor remarked that
it would cost about £\ per week. Cr.
Albert was of opinion that the Clork of
Works should be constantly on the ground.
Alter lurcner discussion it was resolved, on
the proposition of Cr. Da vies, seconded by
Cr. Samson, to leave the matter i» the
hands of the Mayor. Reference having
been made to tlie width of pavement on the
proposed site, Cr. Albert said the Council
should look to the interior, and have good
rooms.
