TRIBAL LAW IN
KIMBERLEYS
Pursuit Into Ranges Of
Accidental Killer
PERTH. January 2.
Bent on his death or the death of
one of his relatives, native tribesmen
are pursuing in the wilds of the Drys-
dale River district, in the Kimberley
country, a 15-year-old aborigine who
accidentally speared a 60-year-old
native, says a report received from
Broome by the Commissioner of Police.
It appears that the native lad had
been given some honey by his father,
and asked for more, which was refused.
Angered by the refusal, the boy hurled
a spear at his father with the inten-
tion of frightening him. The spear
grazed the father and travelled through
the bush into another camp 20 feet
away, striking in the groin an old
aborigine, who died three hours later.
Under cover of the night, the boy and
his parents fled for the ranges to rejoin
their tribe 150 miles inland. Obeying
a tribal law, the dead man's tribesmen
set out in pursuit.
