MORE TOURIST
TRAFFIC
Another Sign Of Better
Times
A steady increase in tourist traffic
is a further sign of a brighter era in
South Australia. The Minister of
Immigration (Mr. Jelley) said yester
day that the Tourist Bureau had re
?oorted that there were now manv more
enquiries regarding excursions, and
the business advantage arising from
tiie visit of travellers to the city, in
stead of remaining- on boats at the
Outer Harbor, or Port Adelaide, was
obvious. A service of special cars was
receiving increasing patronage. On a
recent Saturday, 50 overseas passen
gers had spent the day touring Ade
laide and the hills.
Extending Organisation
Mr. Jelley pointed out that organi
sation had now been developed to a
point where it was possible for tourists,
even before they left London
or New York. to arrange a
complete itinerary. covering all
hotel and transport arrangements
in South Australia. English and
American tourists were showing
interest in this scheme. Through the
Tourist Bureau, more and more people
are coming to realise that their holi
days can be arranged 'more cheaply
through the Tourist Bureau than they
can do it themselves.' said Mr. Jelley.
'besides which they are saved e great
amount of worry and inconvenience.
The best rates possible for railway and
steamer fares and hotel accommoda^
tion were secured for travellers, who
were thus saved worry and inconveni
ence.1*
Although South Australia already
provided wonderful attractions to the
tourists, said Mr. Jelley. the estab
lishment of a 100 per cent, winter
resort would enable the State to offer
a complete itinerary for tourists. For
that purpose, the bureau was en
deavoring to popularise Flinders
Range, as the warm days and crisp
nights there were most pleasant and
healthful. Such a tour would go a
long way towards meeting the de
mands resulting from increased in
terest by overseas people hi the Aus
tralian outback country.
