A. J. Ryan has had one of his
most successful seasons in dis
trict cricket, and has won the dual
honor of having scored most runs
and being premier batsman for
1931-32.
The title of premier batsman is be
stowed on the player who has the best
batting average after playing at least
six innings with a minimum aggregate
of 400 runs.
Ryan's perform
ance in winning
both titles is the
tenth in the 31
years of district
cricket. It is the
second occasion on
which Ryan has
scored the win
ning aggregate, he
having won that
honor in 1925-26,
but it is the firs
time he has

Used the bowling aggregate since the
war. In nine of the 13 years of dis
trict cricket he has taken most wickets,
and eight of his successes have been
in succession. The number of wickets
he has taken in district cricket Is un
approached by any other bowler, and
J. F. Travers, who headed the aggre
gate in eight seasons, is the only
bowler to do so more than twice.
The premier bowler for the season
just completed was P. K. Lee. This
title is given to the player who has
the best averape of those who have
taken at least 20 wickets. It is the
first time that Lee has gained tills dis
tinction, and, had he not been absent
from several matches owing to inter
State games, he might have broken
Williams's long run of successes in the
aggregates. L^'s average is the lowest
since W. J. '\/hittys 8.6 in 1913-14.
Leading Averages
The average taisles published below,
do not include 'ireak' averages, these
having been eliminated by restricting
the taales to baLsmen who have played
in five or more innings, scoring at
least 150 runs at a minimum average
of 20. The bowling table has been
confined to those who have taken five
wickets at a maximum average oi 30.
Averages of the freak type relerred
to are tnose of A. Stevenson (Glenelg),
who played three innings, two of
which were unfinished for an average
of 78; and C. G. Habich (University i,
six innings (five not out), average, 67.
R. L. Haddrick (Gleuelg- would have
headed the bowling averages but for
the restriction, for he took four
wickets at an average of eight, and
A. Morgan (Port Adelaide) took one
for the same figure.
