LADIES' GOLF
CHAMPIONSHIP BEGUN
LONDON May 72.
The ladles* golf championship .meeting
was begun to-day a.\ Formley. There are
five Australian entrants, but only two
played In, to-day's preliminary rounds. Miss
Bay's victory was notable, as her op
ponent was one of the most famous golfers
In Ireland, and has won the Irish cham
pionship several times. Miss Bay nad an
uphill fight. Miss Jackson led all the way
to the fourteenth, when she became erra
tic through the green and began putting
feebly, while Miss Hey was consistently
accurate. Mrs. Bymill (Adelaide) toe
beaten by a local competitor, Mrs. 3ar
bour. in the^rst half. Mrs. Bymill leld
the upper hand and turned two up. but
going home was cut-driren and out-played.
The twin sisters Barclay, or Kingston
Beach (Tasmania), did not appear and
were scratched. Details: —
Second Round— Miss G. Hay (Barown
Heads) defeated Miss Jackson, 2 and 1;
Mrs. Bartour beat Mrs. RymUl (Adelaide).
