This Morning's Report.
"Situation Well in Hand."
This morning Captain Milne and
Foreman Wilkie came ashore after
an all night shift aboard the vessel.
They reported that good progress
was being made with the fight. No. 1
batch was apparently in order, No. 2
hatch was looking a lot healthier, and
the hoses had been transferred to No.
5. No. 3 hatch was intact. No.
4.had been extinguished, and daring
the night the coal gangs from ashore
had taken the coal from No. 5 hatch
'tween decks and placed it on No. 4
hatch. No. 6. hatch was looking
healthy. No. 6 hatch was still going
strong.
Captain Elliott also came ashore.
He expressed confidence with the ul
timate result, and said that 48 hours
would probably see the end of the
fire. The captain was the victim of a
nasty accident while inspecting thc
bunkers. He slipped o a a coal cob
in the dark hold, and as he put out
a hand to save himself it was sliced
by the shovel of a wt rKer. First
aid was rendered by the chief stew
ard and fire brigade members.
