LOKDON, Sunday.-A statement
in the Communist "Daily Worker"
that reconstruction of Clarence
House, Princess Elizabeth's London
home, will cost £250,000, has been
denied by the Ministry of Works,
which says it is unlikely the
£50,000 voted for the work will
be exceeded.
The statement was made, by Mr.
Norman Kennedy, secretary of the
London District Committe of the
Amalgamated Society of Wood
workers, in a broadcast over an
American network.
Mr. Kennedy said tó-day lie did
not believe the Ministry of Works'
statement. The society's estimate
included the cost of fittings.
The society might be £50,000
out, but the cost would be at least
four times the sum allowed for the
job.
He would be pleased to accept
an invitation from Princess Eliza
beth and the Duke of Edinburgh
to go over the whole business.
"They are a democratic pair and
would be pleased to clear the mat
her up," he said.
I He added that his broadcast was
made after some correspondence
¡with Princess Elizabeth on the
subject of costs.
