FORTY MDJE STREAM OF
REFUGEES
London, February 23.
Mustang pilots escorting heavy bomb
ers over Germany yesterday saw a
stream of refugees forty miles long
travelling in every imaginable convey
ance.
'There must have been 10.000 people
strung out on roads in north-western
Germany between Bmden and Munster,
moving north-east and east,' said one
pilot. 'It was an eerie sight — forty
miles of people in battered old trucks,
wheezy carts, on bikes, on horses and
hundreds just walking.'
Alleged Assault — In the Geraldton
Police Court yesterday, before the resi
dent magistrate (Mr. K. H. Parker),
a sailor named Doncan Lowes Steven
son was charged with having unlaw
fully assaulted ' Margaret Cunnold.
Sergeant H. Larsen, who appeared for
the prosecution, said that Mrs. Cun
nold was in hospital and the police
were still awaiting a report as- to her
condition. He applied for a remand
of eight days and this was granted by
the Bench. _ *
