A TASMANIAN FORTUNE.
Estimated at £ 100,000.
NEW SOUTH WALES CLAIMANTS.
YOUNG, Sunday. - A number of
Young residents, descendants, it is
claimed, of James White, of Bagdad,
Tasmania, are interested in the disposal
of a fortune estimated at £100,000 lying
in Chancery.
In Tasmania in the early days
James White owned certain property,
and at the time he disappeared it was
not of much value. Later, however, the
town of Bagdad was built around it,
and the Government resumed White's
land, as the owner could not be' found.
The money, some £40,000, it is said, was
paid to the Equity Court.
White had two sons and a daughter.
One of the sons, Thomas White, was
traced to Voling many years afterwards
He was asked to go to Tasmania and
make his claim in connection with the
estate, but he was then very old and
unalbe to make the trip. Subsequently
he died, and the matter dropped for a
considerable period.
Among the descendants of this
Thomas White was a son, Thomas
White, who married Miss Terrill, of
Young, in 1925. Thomas White met with
a violent death, his widow later mar-
ried Mr. Hoares, who is now claiming
a share of the fortune on behalf of her
family, the issue of her first marriage
There are other descendant - James
White, living at Young; Arthur White
and Charles White. Both are sons of the
late Charles White and grandsons of the
original Mr. White.
lt is probable that many more claim-
ants will spring up, as the White family
is the oldest in the Young district, and
has formed many relationships and has
many descendants.
