The partly charred body of » young

and thrust in a sack, was found in ;» |
culvert on the .Univlong Road, live miles j
from Albury. on Saturday morning. '
Her head had been frightfully battered j
and there w«»np marks of violence on tlu* ?
face and neck. The lw*iy had appar
ently been immersed hi -. some inflam
mable liquid and ati a.trenipt made to
set fire to it; hut only the lower.- part j

The face was reeojrnisable. i
The body was found by Thomas Hun- -
ter Griffith, son of Air! O. H. (^rinith,
manager of the Albury Branch of Dal

res'cd by the remains of a fire at the
?'iitrance to a culvert. The side of the
'Mil vert' had l-een blackened by the lire.
Investigating, he found some hurnt
?jagging and clothing, and beneath them
the human bodv, the upper part of

horrified by, 'the sight, immediately com
municated with the Alhury police, who
after viewing the body, began investi
gations. ?-
The police believe tiat the murderer
or murderers carrie^^np body to tho
culvert in the hope of -concealing' it
there, but when ihey i,?ound this im
practicable they deeiffed -to burn it
