At the local court, Beverley, on Angust
30, before Mr. W. D. Cowan, Messrs. H.
E. and J. Monger sued A. Cornish for the
hire of a buggy. Judgment was given for
plaintiff, with £4 18s. lOd. costs.
A painful mishap occurred at Greenhille
on the 29tli alt., wnen a horse bolted, with
Mr. M'MuUea, throwing him against a. tree
and breaking three of his ribs.
In the York Hospital on the 28th ulfc.,
an old man named Anthony Baxter died of
apoplexy and paralysis. The deceased was
80 years of age, and had been living in
York for the last 30 years.
A special meeting of the committee of
the York Agricultural Society was held
in. the council-chambers on Friday last.
Mr. J. Seabrook occupied the chair.
Twelve new members were proposed, and
alterations were made in the schedule of
prizes. It was resolved that an extra
prize of 30s. be given for the best colt and
filly. In the four-horse team to be driven
two abreast, a second prize of £1 is to
be added. An extra prize of £3 first.
£2 second, £1 third, for milking cows owned
and kept in York district. Additional
prizes for roses as welL Resolved that let
ters be sent to Messrs. F. Craig and G.
Sewell, of Pingelly, asking them to act as
judges in conjunction with Mr. W. Mar
wick. The services of Mr. G. K. Wallace,
of Perth, are to be secured for judging poul
try, and Messrs. J. Morrison and C Har
per, M.L.C., for dairy cows.
