British Prosecutions

LONDON", Thursday. - A mooting
of apple importers, leading retailers and
I a representative of the United States
j Embassy to-day discussed the <]iiostion
' of arsenic in apples.
It was resolved to urge American
! shippers to particularly supervise all
apples intended for Britain.
It is understood that other prosecu
tions of retailers arc pending. Prose
cution is probable wherever apples cou
tain one-thirteenth of a grain of ar
senic to tile pound.

learned that the recent prosecutions
have resulted in appreciably reducing
tho demand. Importers are hopeful
that tho public scare will disappear be-,
for the Australian season opens. Never
theless they are somewhat apprehensive,
realising that owing to public fear aris
ing over some particular foodstuffs, the
article may becomo unsaleable. They
