Drcitkehsess. — Jeremiah Smith
was fined 5f. and 2s. cab fare for
drunkenness. Three other persons
who were similarly charged were
dismissed with cautions.
CHARGE OF WIFE-BEATING - H
Skelton was charged with having
assaulted his wife. On the appli
cation of Mr. E. S. Haynea, who
appeared for the accused, the case
was remanded to the next day.
AujEged Ii-i.b and Disorderly
Peesok. — Mark Ring was remanded
until to-day, on a charge of being
an idle and disorderly person.
Chabge of Labcbkt. — Samoa
Harrison, on remand, charged with
having stolen a quantity of wearing
apparel, was discharged,
Theft op Clothtjjg. — John.
Crotty, on remand, was fined 40s.

Alleged Attempted Sdicdoe.
— Annie Karame, a married woman
and a palmist, residing at a board
ing-house in Wellington-street, was
charged with having attempted to
commit suicide by drowning her
self at the Wiiliam-street jetty on,
Sunday evening last. The follow
ing unintelligible letter was tendered
as evidenceoftheaccused'sintention
to commit suicide. ' Tb my love —
Darling-, as you addressed me
in. your first letter to me,
now* I am going to pass
away from this lie. I know there
are a few friends who will be eorry,
Charlie, Sain, and the poor boys.
Who loves in vain, Nellie. This
note will strike the person it is
meant for. Ted, never have one
moment in your life but my dead
face will come to you at your
happiest moment. — NEMr.' The
evidence for the prosecution al
leged that the letter was given by
the accused to a waiter named
Hendry at the Shamrock Hotel,
who stated in the witness-box: that
he bad quarrelled with the woman,
with whom he had been on inti
mate relations. In reply to ques
tions, the accused said that her
husband, George Karame, had Jeffc
her, and had gone to Broken HiiL
leaving her with a family of younj,
cMldrea, and that that, added *'
other tioubles, caused her to take
the rash step. Dr. Spencer, resi
dent medical officer at the Perth
Hospital, eaid that the womar
was taken to the hospital in the
early hours of Sunday, suffering
from the effects of immersion, and
also from drink. JJestorativea
were applied, and she recovered.
The accused, who hitherto had
been known by the name of Bonda,
was committed for trial.
