GENEBAL APPEAL.
The friends and supporters of the
OarHANAOE ivill be gratified to learn that
tlie UaefuinebS of the institution is likely
to be greatly increased through tiie
operation of the ' Charitable IusUUiUons
Act.' Under this Act the Orpluuia&e is
uow registered, aud will be euauled to pre
vent the capricious removal of children
while th^ir training aud education are
incomplete. The Committee are also
eualiled to apprentice tlie burs, with full
legal guarantee that the mauler, ou the one
hand, and the apprentices, on 4he other,
siiall be protected in their respective rights.
The nsefnluess of the Institution is likely
to be further augmented by the removal -rf
the Buys to a place where agricultural
pursuits can be found for them.
Fora while, however, the Committt*
will bave increased pecuniary responsi
bility ; and the great eflurt that is u»w
?unking to raise tuudc for tiie election of
the buildings to receive the Boys cannot
but make ttie Committee anxious about
the maintenance of tlie ordinary income.
A special application has besides just beea
under their consideration. Before the
removal to the Swan takes place, accommt
dation must b* provided for thechildreu at
Public Warship, and as this most he umJi?
cont«rai»orauei-ii-ly with the erection of
the Orphanage, the Committee have agreed
to supplement any local efforts that ,may
be made ou tiie Swim to lue extent of oue
half die cost, provided that the outlay iu
enlarging the Church does nol exceed £110.
From die Ecclesiastical Grant the Bishop
has set apart £ib lor the same purpose.
To the friends of tbe Orphanage the
Committee now appeal with confidence fur
such coutinued or increased efforts as may
lie needed ta keep the Xubliluiion iu full
working efficiency, notwithstanding the
abore special call upon its funds, and die
existence ofa separate fund for the erection
of tiie Boys' Orphanage itself.
Every aid will lie given by the Dean.
wli« is now re^iitered as the Manager of
the Institution, toward the formation of
local Committees. Through the local
Committee at Champion Say ranch hstn
been doue for tlie funds ; and it is earnestly
hoped that organised means will be adopted
fur collecting -donations and aub&criptiona
in tlie several districts, and that the
frequent complaint will never be heard —
' 1 wouM give, bat nobody asks me.'
