Conference of Growers.
MELBOURNE, April 26.
Representatives from the principal
citrus-growing States off the Commf n«
wealth -were present at the souferetK*.'
convened by tbe Victorian Central Citrus
Association, which . wa» held, to-day.

thought that by being in a position to
absolutely guarantee the Quality and tex
ture of the fruit it would be possible to
increase consumption in the Common
wealth tenfold.
Mr. Parkes (SA). after outlining tbe
fairly satisfactory progress of the export
trade, said that growers in that State
were nl the opinion that the utilization
of fruit for the manufacture of by-products

gaged in the citrus industry. The ser
vices of v* Italian expert ' had been ob
tained, and it was proposed, during -tbc
approaching season, to expend a sum of
£600 in investigating the poRsibilitixe of
this side of the industry. If the work ,
carried on proved satisfactory then was
no reason why the services of this expert -
should no tbe made jointly, available to
tbe South Australian and Victorian asso
ciations. For the present it appeared
as if the citric ncid production offered
greater opportunities than the manufac
ture of lemon peel.
